Utegate (Only in Australia)

I made the mistake of tuning my radio into Parliament on Monday 22nd June. What I heard was not only incredibly embarrassing for any Australian but somewhat pathetic when one considers the many and varied needs that exist in Australia and in the world today.

Almost 3 days of Parliamentary time and media attention has been given to discussing ‘who helped who, who sent which email, who lied to who and who has manipulate the media the most’.

Parliamentary question time was like a bunch of school kids arguing in the school playground. The speaker was like a school teacher trying to handle petulant 5 year olds. To be honest I was embarrassed as an Australian.

In America they had Watergate! In Australia we have Utegate! It makes me laugh!

Thankfully my faith in humanity was restored when on Tuesday morning I read the story of Penny Halbish, a mother who had literally given her life for her daughter. Utegate blog

Penny was a 62 year old grandmother who loved her daughter dearly. Her daughter Suzanne desperately needed a kidney so Penny gladly volunteered. Whilst Suzanne is recovering well, last Friday Penny died (a day after the operation).

Suzanne wrote “Mamma, the most loving, caring, selfless mother ever. I will miss you forever. I am so proud to be your daughter”.

Thank God for a woman like Penny Halbish. Selfless love always reminds me of Christ. He gave his life that I may live. He was not ambitious for power or for fame. The Bible says he made himself nothing and humbles himself for the greater good.

May Penny’s story inspire you as it did me and may Christ be forever a reminder of true leadership!

Yours
Peter
