Every Dust Cloud Has A Silver Lining!
A few weeks ago in Sydney it was all doom and gloom as a massive dust storm descended [see last weeks blog]. Sydneys been wrecked! It’s all due to climate change! Honey who destroyed my City! It’s time to get out of here!
Well it now appears not all is gloom and doom. Scientists have now discovered that the Dust storm did amazing things for the Harbour. Under the heading Dust Was Blooming Marvelous For Harbour!!!! the Sydney Morning Herald chief science editor Deborah Smith reported the following: “THE thick blanket of red dust that settled on Sydney two weeks ago caused the harbour to bloom.
Nutrient-rich topsoil from the city's worst dust storm in about 70 years led to a tripling in the number of microscopic plants, or phytoplankton, in the upper layers of water, Sydney scientists have found.
They also calculate this invisible explosion in photosynthetic life in the harbour and Tasman Sea would have soaked up an amount of carbon dioxide equivalent to a month's emissions from the Munmorah Power Station on the Central Coast.”

So there you have it. What was thought to be a bit of a disaster has turned around to be of benefit. It reminded me of the Monty Python song, “Always look on the bright side of life”. I wonder if that’s your natural inclination. Are you a half glass empty kind of person or a half glass full?
I suppose I try to be the optimist most of the time and a story like this is music to my ears. Optimism however isn’t just something I muster up, as if my only hope were simply found in looking at the small positives in life. I can be optimistic because of the grace and mercy I have been shown by God, who has forgiven my sins and has given me eternal life! What a great hope and a future we have! Let’s keep this in mind as we enjoy all that God has given us.
Have a great week Peter
