the need for good news
You may have seen headlines this week of 2 violent incidents taking place in Sydney’s train stations. One attack in Bankstown left a 16 year old dead and the other with serious injuries. The very next day an 18 year old was admitted to hospital with critical injuries after brawling with another teen on the platform. The pair lost their balance and one was hit by a train passing through the station. Both incidents have no clear motives and it seem to be mindless attacks for no real reason.
Obviously we should be filled with compassion for the parents, families and friends of those who are affected by the sudden tragedy. Just imagine how we would feel if either of these incidents happened to somebody close to us or even our own children. We as Christians need to pray for the affected that God would support them in this time and give them hope in him.
However our reaction doesn’t stop at prayer; this only motives and reminds me that we need to be preaching the good news of the gospel in our nation with more and more aggression. These events should come as no real surprise to us as they are results of a sin filled society. As Paul says in his letter to the Galatians the acts of a sinful nature are; “hatred, discord, jealously, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, fractions and envy” Gal 5:20-21. The only real answer to societies ills is complete transformation and this can only come through the work Christ.
We need to pray for boldness to enable us to proclaim Christ in order that more and more will be saved and added into Christ. Jesus is the only hope for the world but what a fantastic hope he is.
Much Love
