Reporting the News?
Recently in Australia there was a controversy surrounding the incorrect reporting of where a reporter actually was. Instead of being on sight at the location the reporter was still grounded sitting in the Helicopter. (reporters have been sacked as a result) The following picture circulated internet circles some years ago with the following spiel.
'Although this looks like a picture taken from a Hollywood movie, it is in fact a real photo, taken near the South African coast during a military exercise by the British Navy.'
It has been nominated by National Geographic as "The photo of the year".
Of course the photograph is a complete fake and National Geographic had nothing to do with nominating the photograph for an award.
In many respects the above controversy’s are quite minor in comparison to the content of stories that often seek to defame individuals by reporting what they have allegedly done.
I suppose getting a little older has made me at least a little more cautious about basing my judgments about people on what I read in the Daily Papers.
I believe being more cautious often results in our own integrity remaining intact. Although I may have opinions sometimes these are formed on misinformation and that is why staying silent is not a bad strategy sometimes.
Have a good day Peter
