The Marriage Course

In 2003 there were 106,400 marriages in Australia and 53,100 divorces, currently about 32% of marriages end in divorce. 6% of divorces occur in the first year, 33% within the first 5 years and a further 22% in five to nine years of marriage. The institution of marriage is under great threat today. The aim of The Marriage Course is to help reverse the decline by enabling married couples to build a healthy marriage that will last a lifetime.

The eight-session course was pioneered in 1996 at Holy Trinity Brompton, London by Nicky and Sila Lee who have been married for over 30 years. The Marriage Course involves great food, a talk and an opportunity for each couple to discuss a wide variety of issues relating to married life. The course is intended for happily married couples as well as those experiencing difficulties and is designed for non-churchgoers as well as churchgoing couples.

Topics covered on the course include:Marriage Course

  • Building Strong Foundations
  • The Art of Communication
  • Resolving Conflict
  • The Power of Forgiveness
  • The Impact of Family - Past and Present
  • Good Sex
  • Love in Action

Each couple’s privacy is respected as there is no group discussion and no requirement to disclose anything about their relationship to anyone else. The course, while based on Christian principles, is very helpful for any couple with or without a Christian faith or church background.

The cost of the course is $150 per couple. Bursaries are also available, please contact us and we will be pleased to discuss this option.

The course takes place over eight consecutive Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9.45pm at the Grace City Church centre, Corner of Stella & Grevillea Streets, Collaroy Plateau, NSW 2097.

The next course will start in July 2010.

Registration for the next course will open in May

What people have said about the course:
'We nearly didn't come... this year has been extremely hard... we came to a brick wall and didn't know how to get through it. It has totally changed things around. We are going to get our marriage blessed next and have a fresh start.''It was a fantastic atmosphere. Although we were amongst all these people I felt we were on a tropical island just the two of us. It was a great feeling just to spend time together.'
