The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob

God calls himself the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob when he meets Moses in the burning bush (Genesis 3:6), and Jesus refers to God by this title in Matthew 22:32. In Exodus 3:15 we see God say this to Moses - 'God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ “This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.'

Peter after healing the lame beggar outside the Beautiful Gate speaks to the crowd and reminds them that they shouldn't be surprised as this is the power of the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob (Acts 3:13).

This 'literary motif', as it's called, reminded the Israelites and reminds us that God is faithful and true to His word and that His purpose, started with these guys, remains the same - to have a people of His own that will be a blessing to the world. This is Gods call to us today, and this is why we are to be a city shaping church. So we are looking at these stories of these 3 men to learn what we can about how God wants to work with us and how we are to respond to Him.
