Grace City
Internship
Grace City
Internship
GC Internship is a great way to grow in your walk with God and develop the gifts that He has put on you.
This program will have a lasting impact on your knowledge of God, devotional life and in the way you see
and serve at church.
It is a unique opportunity for personal growth and training, a vital ingredient to the growth of the church
and serving God effectively.
It’s for people who want to see something they’ve never seen by doing something they’ve never done.
People who want God to shine through everything they do.
People who want to grow and serve.
Course fees
For interns requiring board and acommodation, the cost of the course (Jan-Aug) is $4,620.00 (AUD), with the extension program incurring additional cost. This includes all of your food and accommodation for the duration. It also includes the cost of and camps (such as 180 Youth camp, church camp) or leader’s weekends away and any books and study guides you will be asked to study. It doesn’t however cover personal items, spending money or transport fares.
So how much spending money will I need?
This is entirely dependent on how you wish to spend your time. The only expense you will be forced to incur are toiletries and transport. However you will probably wish to spend money on things such as your phone contract which is typically $30 a month, social events such as coffees, parties, trips around the city and holidays etc, etc and it is important to remember that Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the World and so essentials may be significantly more expensive than you are used to. It would be sensible to estimate a spend of $100 Australian dollars each month of your stay.
Can I get a Job?
You have Saturdays, Mondays and some evenings where you have the opportunity to get a part time job. Expect to be busy though so you will need time to rest, don’t base a budget on the basis you can work 2 days a week. If you are on a working holiday visa however, you will only be able to work with one employer for six months.
A typical week consists of...
Working 9-5 Tuesday to Friday while Mondays and Saturdays are your days off (though there will be some Saturdays events which will probably work out as 1 per month). On Sunday you will be expected to attend the morning service (including prayer meeting) and during the week in the evenings you will be expected to be involved in activities such as connect groups and youth group. A rough schedule will look like this, note connect groups nights may vary:
What will I actually be doing?
There is a fairly large youth group which you will become a leader of. There is also a great kids work programme on a Sunday morning and there is a playgroup that meets at the church during the week aimed as an outreach programme for non-Christians. There isn’t much student work but there are currently a couple of young adult city groups (with students and young workers).
Youth Camps?
We either hold both a 180 Youth camp aimed at 12-18 year olds in January or join in with the Youth Soul Survivor camp around Easter. Most years we also hold a Church Camp. You will be involved in all of these events and they are both amazing, the presence of God and the hunger of the kids at the youth camp particularly marks out this event.
Will I be having a specific project to work on during my time on FP?
Unlike some other Intern Programs, you won’t be set one specific area in which to serve in. You can focus your time more on a particular area if this is what you feel called to do but otherwise you will be serving in all areas.
Will I be challenged?
Yes, is the simple answer. Intern Programs is designed to challenge your thoughts and your actions. Both theologically and spiritually.
Will I have to do any written assignments?
You will be set roughly one essay per month to do in correspondence to your theology training. Other than that, written work is minimal. For this you may find it useful to have a laptop.
What theological training is there?
You will have a two-hour session with one of the Elders of the church every week. During this time you will be assigned reading, research and assignments. Depending on requirements, there is also content from an online course called Training ForThe Future = TF2 which people from around our region have participated in.
Do we start straight away or do we have time to settle in?
We will aim for you to arrive a week before 180 Youth Camp (if it is being held) so that you have a chance to settle in with your family and explore a bit. You will be given things to do in those days such as meeting the elders and sorting out phone contracts. After 180 Youth Camp, you will start in the office almost straight away.
Who can do the Internship and do I need any qualifications?
Anyone who is over the age of 18 and currently attending a Regions Beyond or Newfrontiers church can do the Internship course. No qualifications are necessary.
When do I need to apply by and how do I apply?
All you need to do is fill in the application form on the website and send it to:
James Ryburn
Grace City Church
PO BOX 490
Collaroy Beach NSW 2097
Australia
Alternatively, you could email it to: office@gracecitychurch.net. Applications should be sent before the 31st October, however, if you are applying from outside Australia, you may need to apply earlier so that you can organise flights.
If applying from outside Australia, what Visa do I need?
If you are applying from outside Australia you will need a visa, please see the link below to see what visa will best suit you. Previous Interns have been using the 417 Working Holiday Visa although it depends on which country you are a passport holder of: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/visa-1
Where would I be living?
The church office is located in the Northern Beaches, Sydney. You will be hosted by a family from the church during your stay in Australia. Depending on where this is located, you will be at most a short drive from the beach.
Does it get cold in Australia?!
Yes! Contrary to popular belief, in the winter it can get cold, but not cold enough to snow. Most houses here aren’t heated and so it is as cold inside as it is outside. Be prepared and bring warm clothing!
When does the course start and end?
The course starts with 180 Youth Camp in Mid-January and finishes at the end of August. If you wish to do the Internship extension, that will run right through until the end of the Australian school year in Mid-December.
Do we get any holiday time?
Roughly half-way through your term, you get 10 days off where you are free to do as you wish. This may be a good time for friends or relatives to visit if you wish or just a time to explore a bit more of the Australian scenery.
How do I get around? Will everything be in walking distance or do I need to catch a bus etc?
You will be able to walk some places. Depending on where you stay, the church office may be within walking distance. You will need to catch a bus if you want to go anywhere else though like the Mall or into the City.
OUR CULTURE
Culture shapes and makes us look and live in a certain way, so is of great importance to know what our culture is.
Christian culture is defined by God in the Bible, and as we read God's Word, we see the definition of His kingdom culture which we are to live out as His people.
Within this, we have found it helpful to define key aspects of our kingdom culture that highlight what we feel God is calling us to right now in Sydney Australia.
What We Believe
We believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus died on the cross so that we may have everlasting life through Him.
