Our Team

We believe that the biblical pattern of church leadership is an eldership team led by a team leader.
Currently the Eldership team consists of Mike Irving (lead elder), Hew Nunn, Miles Simmonds and James Ryburn.

Mike and Lynn Irving

Mike and Lynn have lived on the Northern Beaches since 1997, having moved here from Cape Town, South Africa where they had been part of Jubilee Community Church for many years. Mike serves as the lead elder of Grace City Church and has a passion to see the church being the light to Australia that Jesus has called us to be. A key part of this is discipling men & women to grow into all the fullness that Jesus has won for them and releasing them to see the Gospel proclaimed in word and deed throughout the nation. Mike also has a developing apostolic role within Regions Beyond and is part of the Global Team. Lynn also serves alongside Mike locally and internationally. Lynn also has a heart to see women grow into all God has for them and is passionate about discipling.

Mike has lead in church life for many years while working in a secular job until 2009 when he left his last employment as Vice President at International Business Systems where he had been running the publishing division worldwide. Mike and Lynn have three children.

Hew and Cindy Nunn

Hew & Cindy have been married since 2014 and Hew serves as an elder with a passion to see others come to know the amazing grace of God, especially those outside the church. Cindy has a master of counselling and a heart for young women being released to be everything they are in God. Hew has worked for the Grace City Church for over 5 years and his main focuses are on how we engage with those who don’t know Christ, the youth work and the marketing of the church. He has a Bachelor of theology from Morling college and previously worked in IT infrastructure and product management within the financial sector.

Miles and Kate Simmonds

Miles serves as an elder and he has lived in Australia for 10 years and is originally from the UK. Miles met his wife, Kate, in the UK and they both have a passion for worship and lead the church in moving forward in this. Miles and Kate have a son, Matthew, who is a talented drummer and key part of the youth. Kate also has a gift for teaching and is on the preaching team. Currently, Miles is an IT Strategy Manager and has worked in Business Intelligence in the past.

James and Heather Ryburn

James has been at Grace City since it kicked off in the early 2000’s.  Having grown up within this church community (aside from a few years serving a church plant in Japan), Grace City is his family in so many ways. James loves meeting new people and helping them connect with the church community. He is passionate about Christians doing life together and among other things helps oversee how people become integrated into church community, City Groups, and Mens and Womens initiatives.

In 2015 James joined the Grace City staff after 12 years working in a variety of project management and business leadership roles. He serves as an elder, an honour and responsibility he does not take lightly.

James and Heather have three young daughters, who they are passionate about seeing grow into all God has called them to be.

Gillian Markie

Gillian is our senior administrator, having come from a finance background and having a huge heart for the church, she is developing this key role as the church grows. Her organisational skills and her clear foundation of grace are huge assets in this leadership role.

Hew Nunn

Hew is passionate about seeing people saved and is such a helpful provocation to us in this key area. As well as developing the Alpha course amoungst us he is regularly stepping out in faith, praying for and speaking to people on the streets. He also has a heart for preaching Gods Word with power and clarity and oversees our youth work.

James Ryburn

James loves connecting people together and his heart to see people loved and cared for helps make Grace City a welcoming and embracing family. As well as his connection role, he also oversees our City Groups that are so important in the life of the church.

Kate Kotze

Kate, with her background in teaching, is our children’s pastor. Her heart to see kids grow in God, and develop in Word & Spirit have a huge impact on our children’s ministry. She loves connecting with parents and supporting them in discipling their kids.

Kirsty Eagleton

Kirsty brings her life and fun to the admin team, effortlessly handling the most mundane task while encouraging everyone who contacts the office. There is no doubt that the title we tease her with of ‘chief roster pastor’ is well deserved as she keeps everyone who serves in our many ministries on track.

Lynn Irving

Lynn has a huge heart for discipleship of all types of people, and as well as bringing pastoral wisdom, she also brings a clear encouragement to be the church that brings kingdom advance. This also fits with her wider role alongside Mike to develop leaders in Grace City and related churches and plants.

Matt Irving

Matt assists with our marketing having just qualified as a Graphic Designer. He brings new ideas, freshness and thoughtfulness to all he does. His strongly relational heart and passion for worship and church planting all flow into his work.

Mike Irving

Mike leads the team at Grace City and has a huge heart to see God's Kingdom advancing through the church, believing that the local church, walking in step with the Holy Spirit, is God's answer to see the world changed. Releasing people in their gifting and discipling leaders are key parts of this as well as bringing the reality of grace to the church in Australia and beyond.

Ola Odejayi

Ola is planting a new Grace City Site in Sydney’s North West and has a heart for that community to be changed by the Gospel. His strategic Kingdom thinking and gift of communicating Gods Word is already bearing fruit and will continue to take us forward into new areas.

Sandra Atkins

Sandra is highly qualified to run our external and internal marketing and is wonderfully, constantly, emphasising the Gospel and the fact that church is a family, not an organisation. She gives careful thought to all we are doing and is a key leader amongst us.
